Romance has been having its moment in the last few years, and bookstores such as NYC’s Ripped Bodice and Chester’s Montgomery and Taggert have cropped up to meet the demand of romance, romantasy, and books that will leave you blushing. Fairfield County has had a hole for that market, leaving Connecticut romance readers to flock to Chester to get a taste of romance.
That is until now. Blushed Bookstore Lounge, located in Shelton, is here and meets the demands of the genre. They are Fairfield’s first romance-only bookstore, and dare I say, it exceeds the expectations as well.

Before I get into the contents of this store, I want to get into the gorgeous artwork that is scattered throughout the store. There is a mural that is is on one of the hallways, which is perfect for those who are looking for a selfie. Everything is gorgeously decorated. In one of the rooms, there is a little mural dedicated to ACOTAR, which was absolutely beautiful. And in the back of the store, there are steps that are painted to look like the spines of books. The store is colorful and girly, and overall, just a happy and joyful place to visit.

Now, let’s dive into the contents. There are three parts, which are separated into three different rooms: the sweetheart saloon (aka western romances), honeymoon avenue (where contemporary romances reside) and the enchanted room (fantasy/romantasy). The organization of this store is absolutely amazing. I loved that the books and genres were separated in different rooms, so I was able to find thins with ease.

The selection of books was incredible. Yes, there was romance. I mean, we’re in a romance only bookstore, but there was so much more. There was some contemporary fiction and thrillers thrown in there, as well as a section for local authors in the store. I absolutely loved seeing that.

True the name, Blush Book Lounge is a wonderful place to curl up with a book. In Honeymoon Avenue, there was a cozy couch that I wanted to just read on all day. There were so many cozy corners and nooks and this bookstore, I just wanted to read, read, read.

That being said, what I really liked about this bookstore (and what I enjoy about indie bookstores in general) is the community backed behind. Blush Bookstore Lounge has so many events going on from signings to a book club that’s planned. Their Instagram is constantly promoting the events, so I suggest giving them a follow to check out what’s to come for this little shop.
Visiting Blush Bookstore Lounge was a wonderful dose of serotonin, and is a wonderful place to hang out and build community for those who love a good story.
