River Street Cones and Cups Offers an All Inclusive Experience

Now that springtime is here in Milford, this means the unofficial start of ice cream season. As the snow begins to melt away, we begin to flock to frozen desserts to cool off from the inevitable summer heat. And as we do so, a place that is worth checking out this ice cream season is River Street Cones and Cups.

River Street Cones and Cups is a little blue storefront on the corner in Downtown Milford. It is family owned with the goal of “experience real, authentic, delicious varieties of ice cream and gelato.”

And that they do.

When you walk into their little shop, you’re greeted with a smile and the option to sample something before making the final decision. And making that decision can be quite difficult— especially if you’re indecisive.

Their menu consists of ice cream, gelato, Italian ice, and soft serve. However, the true star of the show is their dairy free options — dairy free ice cream, gelato, and even lactose free soft serve — something that caused me to run to their shop once I heard that was in existence.

For every type of frozen confection, there is a ton of different flavors to chose from whether it may be gelato or ice cream. Their variety include classics, but they also include some trendy and unique, such as Dubai Chocolate, Biscoff, and Caramel Apple.

In addition to their amazing variety flavors, they have incredible variety of toppings and options that can be enjoyed. Cones? Okay, well there’s pistachio and Nutella options in addition to the classic options of waffle and sugar. And of course, true to its’ name, there’s the option of the cup. Toppings include cookie and candy pieces, chocolate sauce, and marshmallows. And there’s so much more than I’m not even scratching the surface of.

River Street Cones and Cups is new in town, but it’s definitely becoming a repeat offender whenever I want ice cream. I’ve had their nondairy gelato and their lactose free soft serve. Both of which is out of this world! The soft serve is rich and creamy and tastes exactly like you’re getting ice cream as a kid — without the adult tummy issues. To be able to have soft serve after years of being lactose intolerant alone is a home run in my book. Actually, the fact that they have a wide variety of dairy free products is a huge win in my book, because in some places that is not always the case.

Furthermore, their other “regular” flavors are just as fresh and flavorful. Their espresso Oreo gelato is intensive and is just like eating a mud pie, while their chocolate ice cream flavor is the perfect fix for a chocolate lover. Their vanilla ice cream flavor was rich and creamy as well, and their cookie dough is full with melt in your mouth pieces of cookie dough in every single bite. As the season continues, I am sure that we will get to enjoy more of their flavorful items that will satisfy my desire for something cold on a hot summer’s day.

Overall, I’m so happy to have tried River Street Cones and Cups and am so excited to try more of their menu as the season wears on.
