What Is An Analog Bag?

Bag is from Barnes and Noble

Analog bags have been taken over my ‘for you’ page on TikTok, and for good reason. 2026 seems to be the year of limiting screens. Analog bags, also known as ‘house purses’ have come in clutch to do just that. They are known as Gen Z’s toyboxes, but this millennial has hopped on the trend.

There are many reasons why more and more people are resorting to activities to reduce screen time: mental health, trying to improve sleep, and productivity are just to name a few. That being said, analog bags are great for that, because they are simply just a totebag with analog hobbies. These hobbies include: coloring, crochet, knitting, needlepointing, and more. Basically, anything that can be considered as a hobby that you don’t need a phone screen or social media for. In fact, I’ve seen some that include a video game system and an iPad.

I created my own analog back, and it is full with everything that I need. I got a free tote bag from Barnes and Noble, and filled it with some coloring books and markers, my embroidery that I started almost three years ago and haven’t finished yet, a book, and my iPod classic. For me, it’s something that I do simply for the joy of it all.

For me, having an analog bag is a way to unwind at night without scrolling on TikTok. It helps me relax, and helps me sleep better as I’m not exposing myself with all of that blue light that comes with scrolling. However, for me the best reason to get on this trend was to keep all of my hobbies in one place (for the most part, I don’t keep my crocheting in there), which makes them easy to find and in turn, helps me actually use said hobbies. In turn, this keeps me off of my phone. Who knew?

Are you considering creating your own analog bag? Some ideas include:

  • Puzzle Books, such as word searches or sudoku.
  • A book
  • Journal
  • Sketchbook
  • Crochet/knitting
  • Embroidery or needle point
  • Coloring books
  • Paint set
  • Sketchbook

There are so many different ways to make an analog bag your own. All you need is an analog hobby that you enjoy, not what the Internet enjoys. It’s simple, and can be as expensive or inexpensive as you need it to be.
